BACK TO THE FUTURE: You knew you'd end up paying more thanks to the harmonized sales tax. What you didn't know was that you'd soon be wearing tie-dye shirts and protesting the Vietnam War all over again -- just because haircuts will cost more.

But allow Guy Gentner to explain it: "Well, we can get into the Beatles revival again, but we won't. The fact [is] that people will be putting bowls on their head to cut their hair because they can't afford the cost of a barber anymore. Unbelievable. Maybe we'll see the Hair musical revival coming, and we'll all be wearing beads and sandals -- heaven forbid."

New Democrat MLA Guy Gentner is making me nervous. I'm worried about him.

He's utterly dedicated to his job. The Delta North MLA is the go-to guy when the NDP needs a passionate speech denouncing the Liberals.

In just the last few weeks he's call them a "heavy-handed," "brutal," "cheap," "deceitful," "baneful," "cruel," "elitist," "crass," "despicable," "disdainful" government.

Even by legislature standards of diatribe, that's not a bad record.

But his devotion to unmasking the B.C. Liberals is verging on the fanatical. It was his recent speech on the topic of the Wood First Act that ratcheted up the level of concern.

The Wood First Act is an innocuous little two-page bill. It requires the use of as much wood as possible in all new provincially funded buildings.

Or as the government puts it, the bill "facilitates a culture of wood for construction."
