Message from Chief Constable Jim Cessford
There is no question that we are facing challenging times that dictate an environment of constant change and advancement. Having said that, there are some things that must remain firmly entrenched in how we, the police, conduct our business.
It is my belief that quality policing rests on four pillars in order to achieve and sustain success. These four pillars, Public Trust, Public Confidence, Professionalism and Public Safety must be the cornerstone on which we build if we are to provide quality policing. If we allow any of these pillars to erode, we compromise our ability to provide effective policing to the community we serve.
I would like to clarify what I mean by the four pillars by providing a brief summary of each.
Public Trust: The public must trust that the police will perform their duties with honesty and integrity.
Public Confidence: The public must have confidence in their police and in their ability to maintain safe communities.
Professionalism: The police should be role models for professionalism in everything that they do.
Public Safety: The number one priority for the police must be public safety. The police, in concert with the community, should develop strategies to: educate, problem solve, enforce laws and form partnerships with the community to deal with criminal activity and public order issues.
These four pillars are reflected in our declared Vision, Mission and Core Values within which we operate.
Our Department remains committed to delivering excellence in policing through the constant flow of relevant information, technology advancement and a continued partnership with the community to sustain peace and order. Together we can continue to take pride in the great community in which you live and we proudly serve.
